Economizing
A few money-saving tips for living in one
of the world's most expensive cities:
-
Pirate wireless internet from your neighbors (knock on wood).
- Buy
the 12-inch “Iceland” store brand pizza – a whole
meal for two for under $3!
- Drink
store brand beer; it's only 40 cents a can. (You gotta love Europe,
why would you not have store brand alcohol? Drinkers like to save money
too.)
- Furnish
your “flat” with stuff your neighbors throw out –
so far we’ve scored a nightstand, a desk and a shoe rack. Trash
night on our street must be some of the best shopping in London!
- Homemade
greeting cards – fortunately Dave picks up all kinds of great
paper from school that can be turned into lovely greeting cards.
- Realize
the beauty of the second class stamp – takes a little longer,
but it gets there… eventually.
- Two-for-one
pizza night at the pub up the street
- “Tesco
Value” store brand tea bags – 80 bags for 42 cents, and
the added bonus is that you can get two cups of tea from one bag!
