Berlin
New Years Eve 2008
Berlin has a huge New Years celebration but we
found the magic of the festivities wasn't the open air concerts,
the reveling crowds assembled at the Brandenburger Gate or the scores
of beer and food stalls but rather the unmeasurable amount of people
lighting off their own fireworks in the city streets. It sounded
like the blitzkrieg.
The air was actually thick with smoke from the amount of fireworks
(as you can see in the photo of the bridge.) The streets were littered
with the remnants the next morning. It's precisely what we'd
call a lawsuit waiting to happen in the US.
